Our client is a leading provider of innovative packaging and labelling solutions serving retail, high street brands, food, industrial, and promotional/event industries across the UK and Europe. This well-established business offers a wide range of stock and bespoke products, including catering disposables, food packaging, labelling solutions, bags and custom-printed packaging.

They are now looking to recruit a European Business Development Manager who will manage the companies activities in Europe in line with strategies agreed with the board. You will maintain and improve sales in Europe through increased volumes of current products or new products, on European customer accounts and to develop opportunities, in Europe, with new customers and distributors.

Role / Responsibilities:

  • Recommend European sales strategies to the Board and assist the Boarin in implementing these, once they are agreed
  • Undertake market and customer research building and managing a pipeline of future opportunities
  • Responsible for managing all European customer accounts and to manage all communication with customers on these accounts
  • Undertake research in order to identify prospective customers and distributors and key decision makers within target companies
  • Build and maintain a database of customers, communications with them and to establish a pipeline of future opportunities as well as managing your own order pipeline and to report on this to the Company's Board on an as required basis
  • Develop and close profitable opportunities with new customers
  • Manage all day-to-day communications with designated customer accounts and distributors, including but not limited to price increases, delivery queries and any customer complaints and to ensure that all communication is delivered in a timely and professional manner
  • Build and maintain successful and long-lasting relationships with customers and distributors, to understand their needs and to use these relationships to maintain and improve sales to them through increased volumes of current products and by obtaining orders for new products
  • Review stock levels and orders placed with suppliers for products taken on designated accounts and to work with the Company's buying and stock control function to ensure that stock is available to meet customer lead times at the forecast levels agreed with the customer
  • Analyse customer sales data and to keep the Chairman appraised of sales trends, including making recommendations for products and areas to review/address to assist in targeting efforts to improve sales
  • Process any customer and distributor enquiries for products, including obtaining quotes and delivery timescales from suppliers and issuing quotations to customers in a timely manner
  • Complete all the Company's internal documentation to enable new products to be processed on to the Company's business system in line with BRC requirements
  • Participate in in-house sales and management meetings as required
  • Assist the Chairman, Business Director and Sales Director, and the Company with ad-hoc activities as required

Qualifications And Experience

  • Educated to GCSE standard with a good standard of English and Maths
  • Have excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and be comfortable dealing with customers at all levels
  • Have experience of business development activities and customer relationship management, preferably with some European experience
  • Able to work to deadlines as required, to be flexible in adjusting workloads to meet changing priorities and have a good attention to detail
  • The role may involve some travel to customers and suppliers, including overseas, and a full UK driving license and appropriate passport to enable travel to take place, are necessary to undertake this
  • Excellent IT skills and a good understanding of Microsoft office products including the ability to use and produce excel spreadsheets
  • Comfortable in team environments and a willingness to adapt and help others when required
