TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT LEAD - CORRUGATED PACKAGING

Our client is one of the UK's largest independent corrugated packaging manufacturers. Their converting services range from high volume transit cases to retail ready packaging and they offer a full service in all customer box design requirements to clients in FMCG and Food markets.
They are currently seeking a Technical Development Lead to strategically lead and prioritise the Technical Development team, driving value creation for both customers and internal stakeholders, enhancing profit margins, and supporting sustainable sales growth. You'll be reporting to the Head of Design, Innovation & Technical.
Key Responsibilities:
- Head up the existing team of 4-5 people
- Lead and manage the Technical Development team to deliver impactful, customer-focused solutions
- Develop strong working relationships with targeted customers, embedding Value Creation and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principals.
- Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, supporting the development and optimisation of tools and systems
- Develop training and succession plans using the company's skills & competency framework
- Collaborate with Sales, Commercial, and Marketing to identify and target high-value opportunities
- Own and manage projects from ideation through a structured stage-gate process to on-boarding
- Support tenders with value-driven insights and innovation
- Co-ordinate automation and sustainability initiatives with strategic partners and customers
Requirements:
- Proven experience in packaging, preferably with exposure to technical, sales, or design functions
- Commercially aware leader with excellent communication and people management skills
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable working on multiple high-value projects with tight timelines
- Passionate about sustainability and continuous improvement
- Flexible, proactive, and organised, with a collaborative approach
