SITE SERVICES ENGINEER
NORTH WEST
SALARY £28K-38K (Depending on Experience) + 20% Shift Allowance
DOUBLE DAY SHIFT PATTERN
Our client is an industry leader of bespoke printed folded cartons for a wide range of market sectors. With state-of-the-art equipment and on-site design, they are able to respond quickly and efficiently to all their customers packaging requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and diagnose electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic faults during breakdowns; estimate repair times and report using the T-card system
- Work closely with production to prioritise and schedule repairs, balancing reactive and proactive maintenance
- Deliver safe, effective engineering solutions to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability
- Improvise in complex breakdown situations when no standard solution is available
- Log maintenance actions in software systems, including part numbers for future reference
- Apply 5S standards across workshop equipment, storage, and stock control areas
- Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to identify and order correct spare parts in line with company procedures
- Investigate and resolve recurring faults; recommend and implement long-term solutions
- Communicate effectively with the Engineering Manager during shift handovers
- Coordinate with contractors and main agents for specialist maintenance and repairs
- Access and interpret technical information to support diagnostics and repairs
- Identify & implement modifications to improve equipment performance and reduce costs
- Update technical drawings and records following modifications or upgrades
- Support equipment selection and installation projects with specialist knowledge
- Stay current with new technologies and machinery systems
- Manage and supervise contractors to ensure high-quality work with minimal disruption in line with Health & Safety policies
- Maintain infrastructure and services across multiple buildings, including sprinklers, HVAC, lighting, fire/security systems, drainage, and water supply
- Act as deputy for the Engineering Manager when required
- Contribute creative solutions to operational challenges across departments
- Coordinate with the Site Manager on infrastructure and safety matters, including sprinklers, roadworks, water systems, and evacuation drills
- Develop SOPs, COSHH assessments, and technical manuals related to maintenance and engineering
- Source and purchase general equipment and consumables for site-wide use
- Advise and support compliance with legislation such as HSWA, PUWER, LOLER, Asbestos, Legionella, Permits to Work, and EAW Regulations
- Provide cover for team absences and support tasks requiring two engineers, including weekend shifts
- Mentor and supervise apprentices and operatives in engineering techniques and best practices
- Offer out-of-hours engineering support as availability allows
- Follow all Quality Assurance and Health & Safety policies, including ISO9001, PS9000, BRC, FSC, and PEFC standards
- Ensure a clean, safe working environment through good housekeeping and adherence to environmental procedures
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and level of training, as directed by the Line Manager
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems in a production environment
- Strong fault-finding ability, proactive maintenance approach, and use of maintenance/ stock control systems
- ONC/HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, NVQ Level 2 or 3
- Knowledge or familiarity with health & safety regulations (PUWER, LOLER, HSW Act)
- Experience with PLCs (e.g. Siemens), inverters, welding, MEWPs, 5S/lean practices, IEE Wiring Regs, and Test & Inspection certifications (Desirable)
- Reliable, safety-conscious, flexible, and a good communicator
