PRODUCTION OPERATIVE

WORKING HOURS - ROTATING SHIFTS - MORNINGS / EARLIERS / LATES
MORNINGS: Monday to Thursday (5:45am till 2pm) / Friday (5:45am till 12:45pm)
AFTERNOONS: Monday to Thursday (13:45pm till 10pm) / Friday (12:30pm till 7:30pm)
EVENINGS: Sunday (11pm till 6am) / Monday to Thursday (9:45pm till 6am)
Our client specialises in printed folding cartons, providing bespoke solutions to a range of food markets throughout the UK. They are currently looking to recruit a Production Operative. You will be responsible for the safe operation of production equipment from the loading to packing of finished product, adhering to quality standards and maximising cost effectiveness, optimal running and equipment efficiency.
You will be responsible for carrying out routine cleaning and inspection activities, identifying and recording any equipment issues and reporting them to the Engineering department for resolution. You are expected to develop competence across a range of machines to support operational flexibility and factory resilience. The role will also involve carrying out minor mechanical adjustments and basic maintenance tasks where required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and oversee machinery that cuts, presses and glues corrugated board to manufacture packaging products
- Operate production machinery safely and effectively using appropriate technical knowledge to meet the production plan, carrying out routine cleaning and lubrication where required
- Maintain machinery and equipment to the prescribed operational standards and levels of cleanliness
- Understand the properties of materials being handled and ensure machines are correctly set and adjusted to achieve optimal performance and product quality
- Carry out product and process changeovers efficiently while maintaining quality standards and minimising disruption to the production schedule
- Ensure a safe working environment for all team members and understand the legal responsibilities placed upon individuals regarding health and safety
- Maintain full awareness of workplace hazards and follow all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment
- Reduce waste and minimise environmental impact through efficient working practices and the correct handling and disposal of waste materials
- Follow all quality procedures and accurately complete quality documentation and quality sheets
- Identify, prioritise and resolve operational problems using appropriate tools and techniques, demonstrating initiative to prevent recurrence
- Make appropriate decisions regarding product quality, including rejecting non-compliant products and supporting the daily production plan
- Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating reliability, clear communication and a supportive approach with colleagues
- Complete accurate shift handovers and record key operational information such as production output, rejects and maintenance activities
- Maintain the physical capability required for the role, including moving between workstations, ascending and descending steps, and performing tasks requiring hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ensure customer requirements are met in terms of both product quality and production output
- Comply fully with the company's quality standards and procedures
- Adhere to the company's health, safety and environmental policies at all times
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-maintained work area through good housekeeping and routine maintenance practices
- Maintain accurate and efficient control of components, including correct filing, stock handling and good housekeeping practices
