PACKAGING DESIGNER

Our client is a well-established and highly respected manufacturer within the corrugated and sustainable packaging sector, supplying bespoke packaging solutions to customers across a wide range of industries throughout the UK.

They are currently looking to recruit a Packaging Designer to join their design team. You will be responsible for supporting the department Manager and the wider design team. Having a great eye for design and be able to adapt to multitasking projects. As a member of the design team, you will also be required to help develop the junior members of the team about the fundamentals of packaging design and support where needed. You may also get involved with heading specific customers/projects when they feel it is appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce basic artwork proofs from supplied design briefs
  • Support the training and development of junior team members in the fundamentals of packaging design
  • Carry out proof checking to ensure accuracy and compliance with customer and production requirements
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in the use of 2D CAD programmes, such as Kasemake, ArtiosCAD and VPack
  • Design and cut CAD samples, including both parametric and bespoke designs, and prepare, package and dispatch samples to customers where required
  • Order printing plates and die-cut formes in line with project and production requirements
  • Prepare tooling cost estimates for customers
  • Raise work specifications and print drawings accurately and efficiently
  • Liaise with customers and external suppliers, including forme, stereo and ink suppliers
  • Attend customer meetings and site visits where appropriate
  • Carry out general office and administrative duties as required
  • Keep up to date with market developments, materials and trends within the packaging industry
  • Work closely with other departments and the wider design team to develop innovative and commercially viable packaging solutions
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as requested by management
  • Travel occasionally within the UK and overseas as required
  • Assess and calculate suitable board grades from customer samples
  • Take the lead on specific customer accounts or projects when delegated by the Design and Innovation Manager
  • Maintain an appropriate working knowledge of bespoke programmes within KAMA production software
  • Respond to urgent production queries, including replacement tooling such as stereos and formes

Requirements:

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Resilient and confident in challenging appropriately where required
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and 2D packaging design CAD software
