HANDS ON ASSISTANT SHIFT MANAGER - CORRUGATED PACKAGING

LOCATION: CAMBRIDGESHIRE

SALARY: £OPEN + Overtime + Annual Profit Related Bonus + Life Assurance Scheme

DOUBLE DAY SHIFT:
Week 1: Mon to Thurs - 6am till 2pm / Friday - 5am till 12pm
Week 2: Mon to Thurs - 2pm till 10pm / Friday - 12pm till 7pm

Our client is a well-established, leading bespoke corrugated packaging manufacturer and solutions provider (design, manufacture and print up to 4 colour, all in house). They design and manufactures a wide range of corrugated boxes from retail ready packs and regular transit packaging to complex die cuts and printed cartons for a wide variety of markets.

They are looking for a motivated and proactive individual to join their team. In this role, you will support the Shift Manager by being part of the production team running machinery on the shop floor on a day-to-day basis. In the absence of the Shift Manager, you will be expected to take on the supervisory responsibilities, including overseeing the entire shifts operations, ensuring smooth workflow, addressing any urgent matters, and maintaining high standards of performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Shift Manager in supervising the shift team to meet operational goals.
  • Supervise and coordinate a team of production staff to ensure targets are met efficiently and safely
  • Monitor and maintain production schedules, quality standards and equipment performance
  • Address and resolve any operational issues promptly to minimise downtime
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Provide training and support to team members to enhance performance and morale
  • Prepare and maintain accurate shift reports and handovers
  • Ensure that the levels of Health and Safety, housekeeping and hygiene are maintained to a high standard in an environment of continuous improvement
  • Achieve set targets and goals
  • Performance manage employees to ensure that all personnel are well trained and highly motivated whilst being engaged in their work and with the company
  • Liaise with the sales department to ensure that agreed delivery promises are met on time and in full
  • Complete the required audits in full and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that materials are available in appropriate lead times and to agreed specifications.
  • Ensure effective communication with all levels of factory personnel and external customers
  • Ensure that all procedures are carried out to specification, all relevant documentation is correctly completed, and all records are accurately kept in line with BRC procedures

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment, ideally in a supervisory role
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a proactive approach to challenges
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing setting
  • Proficiency in using production management systems and basic IT tools
