CNC MACHINIST - WOOD INDUSTRY
EAST MIDLANDS

DAY SHIFT
Our client is a leading industrial packaging manufacturer. They specialise in full packaging solutions including wooden and corrugated boxes, pallets, returnable packaging, export packaging etc for a range of market sectors.
They are looking for a Machinist to join their Production Team as a former leader in the wood industry. The candidate will be responsible for running, programming, and optimising CNC machinery used in the manufacturing of plywood and wood. They will need to analyse drawings and make correct interpretations even if drawings are not correct.
Machines Operated:
* CNC HOMAG
* Digital Plotter (G-code based programming, similar to CNC)
* Panel Saw - HOMAG
* Table saw
* Simple hand tools like Milling Machines, Drillers
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate and monitor CNC machines in daily production
* Read and interpret technical drawings and production documentation
* Write, modify, and optimise CNC programs directly on the machine control system
* Set up machines, select tools, and adjust machining parameters
* Perform quality checks to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with specifications
* Load and unload plywood and wood materials safely and efficiently
* Maintain machines and ensure proper housekeeping of the workstation
Requirements:
* Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC machines
* Proven ability to write and edit CNC programs independently
* Strong understanding of technical drawings
* Experience with G-code programming
* Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining issues
* Physical capability to handle plywood and wood materials safely
* High level of attention to detail and quality awareness
* Ability to speak different languages is a big benefit
Experience in a steel manufacturing environment, particularly within oil & gas or heavy industry sectors, is considered a strong advantage due to the high precision and technical discipline typically developed in those industries.
Additional Qualifications (Advantage):
* Forklift driving experience
* Willingness to obtain certification for Combilift (multi-directional forklift) operation - training can be provided
