BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - PACKAGING
HOME BASED / ENGLAND
£50-60K DOE + Car Allowance + Bonus
Our client is a market leading global packaging manufacturer throughout the world. Around 22,000 colleagues produce quality packaging for foodstuffs, cosmetics and industrial cleaning brands for many blue-chip clients across sites in 45 countries.
They are seeking a BDM to be responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth through the identification, development and conversion of new business opportunities. The job holder will focus on expanding the customer base, strengthening market presence and supporting the achievement of strategic sales targets, whilst ensuring alignment with Corporate objectives and maintaining a strong commercial focus on profitability and long-term partnerships. This role is a split of 60% new business and 40% account management.
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Identify, target, and convert new business opportunities to drive profitable revenue growth.
- Develop and manage a robust 6-12 month sales pipeline, ensuring consistent progression through all stages of the sales cycle.
- Proactively engage with brand owners, procurement teams, and key decision-makers to understand needs and create tailored packaging solutions.
- Position the company as a strategic packaging partner by demonstrating strong market insight, innovation, and commercial value.
- Build, maintain, and grow long-term customer relationships to drive retention and account expansion.
- Develop strategic account plans to unlock additional growth opportunities within existing customers.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through regular engagement and value delivery.
- Achieve targets relating to new business revenue, pipeline value, conversion rates, margin quality, and account growth.
- Lead negotiations and commercial discussions, managing longer and more complex sales cycles effectively.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
- Provide consistent pipeline visibility, forecasting, and reporting.
- Spend 3-4 days per week on the road meeting clients, prospects, and key stakeholders.
- Act as a visible and trusted representative of the Company in the market.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities:
Our Client will provide safe work instructions, safe equipment or tools, personal protective equipment, and welfare facilities appropriate for the work activities within this job role. The company and their landlord require health, safety, and environmental compliance to be demonstrated by users of their premises.
The job holder is responsible for abiding by work instruction and adhering to the Company procedures for health, safety and environmental for own protection and that of others who may be affected by the undertaking of the job functions. Attendance at health, safety and environmental training is anticipated with periodic refreshers related to the job hazards eg: fire awareness, manual handling, and Display Screen Equipment assessment. The job holder will consult with their Line Manager for matters pertaining to health, safety, or environment.
Food Safety Responsibilities:
This client manufactures products for the food industry and holds FSSC22000 accreditation. Under these requirements all personnel have a responsibility to ensure the products produced are fit for purpose and meet the hygiene standards required. All employees are therefore responsible for reporting of pest incidents, product tampering, hygiene breaches and any other potential incidents that could impact the final product. The Company are committed to providing the appropriate training to support employees with these aspects of their roles.
