CAMBRIDGESHIRE

SALARY £35-48K (Depending on Experience) + 24 Days Holiday plus Bank Holidays + Christmas Shut Down with 3 working days taken from Entitlement + Pension + Life Assurance Scheme + Sick Pay + Profit Related Bonus Scheme

HOURS: Mon to Thurs (8am till 4pm) / Fri (8am till 3pm) - The position involves working a part/full night shift when required generally once a month - (Must be contactable out of hours and at weekends to deal with any emergencies relating to health and safety, being able to respond and attend site if required)

Our client are a leading bespoke corrugated packaging manufacturer and solutions provider (design, manufacture and print all in house). The company supply a wide range of market sectors including FMCG, retailers, supermarkets, produce markets, growers, food, cosmetic, automotive, industrial and horticultural.

They are currently looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. You will be responsible for driving force behind creating and maintaining a culture where safety is second nature. You will work closely the production teams, engineers and leadership to ensure everyone goes home safe every day, processes are met to the highest standard and the operations run smoothly without compromising wellbeing.

Your expertise will directly shape safer working practices, reduce incidents and help exceed industry standards, whilst ensuring the companies operation is run in line with health and safety law through the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of a health and safety system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a positive health and safety culture, advocating health and safety comes first
  • Work with and train all employees to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards in the workplace
  • Design and deliver in house training sessions on key areas in relation to Health and Safety and support the delivery of other training programmes, including new staff inductions and management training
  • Oversee First Aiders and Fire Marshals on the sites
  • Act as an expert resource to others within the sites
  • Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation and RIDDOR reporting
  • Review all accidents/incidents and near misses
  • Respond to any safety complaints and concerns raised by employees, investigating their claims and putting plans in place to remove danger
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented effectively
  • Deliver engaging safety briefings and toolbox talks that resonate with teams at all levels
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve health and safety policies, procedures and training programmes tailored to the operations
  • Use the designated systems to record health and safety data and produce the necessary reports
  • Manage the sites Health and Safety in line with Health and Safety law and in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Monitor compliance with UK health and safety legislation (including COSHH, PUWER and LOLER) and industry best practice
  • Collaborate with managers to embed safety considerations into new products, equipment installations and process changes
  • Co-ordination of all Health and Safety activities including committees, training and communication to ensure the site remains compliant
  • Undertake Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment of all activities in the workplace, creating risk assessments and SSOWs as required
  • Management of contractors on site e.g. permits to work
  • Ensure the sites meet or exceed the Health and Safety targets expected by the Company
  • Lead safety and environmental compliance to ensure the sites are poised and prepared for regulatory audits and inspections
  • The lead in relation to compliance of the BRCGS system and any other Quality Management system in use
  • As required interact across the company group to share best practice & safety information
  • Liaising with the enforcing authorities e.g. HSE and Fire Authority

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH General certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum NEBOSH Diploma or working towards it is a plus
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a strong understanding of machine safety, manual handling and hazardous substances
  • Excellent verbal, written and IT skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to influence and engage people at all levels
  • Able to build strong and effective relationships with colleagues by demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • A self-motivated and self-disciplined attitude with a high degree of attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
